sports equipment on flights – what to put in snowboard bag?

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Hey,
I’ve got a question about sports equipment on flights. I’m flying from the States to Germany and got a snowboard in a huge snowboard bag… My airline (Airberlin) told me it can weight up to 30kg so I thought, I can just throw all my snowboard gear in there as well like jackets and pants etc. But now I heard that airlines can be a little funny with that and even though it’s a huge back I’m just allowed to put my snowboard and boots in there. That’s it. Does anybody have any experience with that? Do they really open the bag to check that I didn’t put anything else in? I mean I could book another piece of luggage but that would cost me 150 dollars and there’s sooo much space in my snowboard bag. That’s just stupid!

When I go to the airport and I check my snowboard, will I just be charged the second bag fee or will I have to pay even more than that? I will be using continental airlines.

Hey! I’m lookin for a snowboard bag for my freestyle woman’s snowboard. should I get a bag that is the exact size of my snowboard or slightly larger? should the bag be made out of certain materials if I want to travel via airplane to places? I need something that will protect my board for the cheapest price. Thanks so much:)

Flying with a Snowboard Bag?

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Has anyone recently flown on Southwest Airlines with a Sportube Series 3 snowboard bag? It’s basically a hard case snowboard bag, but since my snowboard is longer than 62″, I’m wondering if I’ll get charged for it being oversized. If all goes well, I hope to fit two snowboards in it, keep it under the 50 pound weight limit and hope that I don’t get charged extra fees. Any insight would be great. Thanks!

Can you take a snowboard onto a plane?

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

I am getting a snowboard and I am getting a bag for it, but I need to take the snowboard on a plane to Colorado. I was wondering if you have to check the snowboard in or can you just take it straight onto the plane with you? Thanks.
