What is the difference between different temperature snowboard wax?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Are the degrees listed designed to help tell what temperature the wax will melt from an iron, or what temperature snow you ride on?

If it is the snow, how am I supposed to know this?

I live in southern New York, we don’t get too much snow and the average winter temperatures when I’m boarding are around 25-40.

I bought a stick of warm temperature wax, and am afraid this wont work.

How To Snowboard Tricks

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Waxing is the best tuning job for snowboards and offers instant results. Since wax makes it easier for snowboards to glide over snow, a waxed board will slide quicker and turn simpler. Waxing also protects the base form the dangerous effects of moisture, UV rays, snow pollutants, and dust.
If you are looking to have the smoothest rides, you can always wax more often.

1 ) Before waxing your board, ensure that the base is clean. 2 ) Using an iron, hold a bar of wax against the base of the iron and let the wax drip onto the base. Run a bead of wax along the base without ever letting the iron touch the base. The iron should be hot enough to melt the wax, but not so hot that the wax smokes. ( 250 degrees Fahrenheit is normal )

three ) Once the wax has been applied along the entire length of the base, smooth it out with the iron, being cautious not to let the iron stall or touch the plastic base. Spread a thin layer of wax uniformly over the entire base.
4 ) Once the wax has totally cooled, scrape off the surplus wax by pushing or pulling the scraper from the tip to the tail. Next, use a soft nylon brush to buff the leftover wax. Brush with little, quick strokes until there are no more small white balls of wax.
five ) ultimately, polish the base lightly with an abrasive pad that may make riding smoother and more pleasurable. Whatever you do, make efforts to scrape excess wax from the steel edges so they can cut into the snow.

Is it really necessary to wax skis or a snowboard?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

My boyfriend and I want to go skiing/snowboarding tomorrow, but neither of us have waxed our stuff yet, and won’t have time to go buy the wax today. Is it really bad to ski / snowboard without waxing it first? (he last waxed his at the beginning of last season I think, and I just bought used skis so I have no idea how long its been). Thanks!
