Protective Snowboarding Gear: A Must For Beginners And Expert Snowboarders

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

An extreme winter sport, snowboarding can cause injuries to the rider that could be as small as innocent and minor slips or as harsh as crashes that have a high impact and the consequences could be rather dire. The newcomer to snowboarding is often the most vulnerable and gets injured even while undertaking less risky maneuvers. All this implies that the snowboarder requires protective snowboarding gear and this is more relevant to snowboarders that have not yet learned how to keep a stable stance on a snowboard and so face more threat of being injured.

In fact, it is believed that as many as 25% of injuries take place during the first experience a snowboarder has with snowboarding and nearly 50% take place during the first season.

First Time Snowboarders

First time snowboarders as well as regular snowboarders need protective gear and some of these are snowboard wrist guards, snowboard knee pads, snowboard hip pads, snowboard helmets, and a safety leash. The most common of all injuries that can be sustained by snowboarders is the wrist injury, which may be caused when one slips backwards or lands on the hands and the hard impact may cause sprains or fractures.

Protective gear such as Snowboard Specific Wrist Guards are ideal in preventing injuries as it can ease the force of the fall on the joints of the upper body. When hard collisions, such as hitting a tree or impacting from unexpected angles or turning motions occurs, the knees may get injured and so one needs protective snowboarding gear such as knee pads to help prevent contusions.

Another protective snowboarding gear that is used by snowboarders to cushion the fall as well as keep the seat warm and dry is the hip pad which is stretchable and can be pulled on like biked shorts. The extra padding in the backside of the Snowboard Hip Pads prevents tailbone bruises and the beginning snowboarder who does not wish to purchase such protective snowboarding gear may even rent out snowboard hip pads for the first few days of riding on the slopes.

It should be kept in mind that even professional riders use protective snowboarding gear such as hip pads, especially when trying out new moves in the halfpipe and terrain parks.

Sometimes the snowboarder may crash with natural objects such as hard snow or ice surface conditions or rocks and trees and this may result in serious injuries. This means that one should use protective snowboarding gear such as a helmet, even if one is very able and has high level of expertise.

Finally, one may need another protective snowboarding gear called the safety leash, which is a safety must and is essentially a non-releasing strap that can be wrapped around the leg to prevent the snowboard from getting away accidentally.

Some folks who come into the sport buy their snowboards ; others get theirs as gifts after much pleading and patient waiting. That’s a start, but now you have got to work out the hardest part, which is learning how to become a genuine snowboarder. In this piece we’re going to talk about some of the fundamental strategies of snowboarding, and some of the major things you’re going to need to learn, and the appliances you are going to need to start.

Boards come in all sizes, for adults and kids of all ages and sizes so when you get your board, confirm it is a good fit. This way learning the way to snowboard is going to be way easier.

Snowboarding works in much the same way as skiing, and the board is shaped in pretty much the same way as a ski. For those with experience in skiing the transition should be much easier than for someone who is altogether new to the snow.

There are many types of snowboards, including freestyle boards, complementary ride boards and alpine or race boards. Beginners like them because they are more easy to use than the other kinds of board. The 2 ends of the freestyle board are the same, so there isn’t any back and front. This kind of board is good for learning to snowboard, and for learning new tricks. Employ a soft, short shoe for this type of board.

Naturally, an amateur or noob wouldn?t have much use for this facility. It isn’t as short or wide as the freestyle board and it is less flexible.

Race or alpine boards are the sort of boards you will see being utilized in major competitions, or by professionals. Its thinness increases stability and makes the board pick up speed easier, and make sharp, fast turns more easily. The shoe that goes with a race or alpine board looks like a ski shoe, for support and control.

Be sure to keep your legs and your full body relaxed. If you tense up it is going to be hard going, and you run the risk of experiencing a deadly fall. Keep your knees bent a little , but don’t lock them. Instead, focus on keeping your legs loose to soak up the pressure of any bumps you bump into.

That way, the ride will be smooth and easy and it will not be hard to keep your balance. Avoid the urge to tense up your legs, or you will not get that smooth ride and you are highly likely to finish up on the ground, which isn’t a neat place to be. Glance at the pros and see how they do it, and you will get an understanding of the sport. This is a good way to avoid needing to learn by random attempt, which could be a really agonizing process.

When you think you are prepared, strap in the other foot and try going down the hill for the first time.

Use your front leg to lead the board, and use your hips to maintain balance. Remember to keep your knees bent to absorb the shocks of any bumps on the hill. You are now snowboarding. When you would like to stop just turn sideways so that the board is heading vertical to the hill, and you are facing up. To start again, point your snowboard down and it will start sliding.

You may want to borrow kit the initial few times to get a feel for the sport before getting your own personal shoes and board. You will also have a better idea about what sort is correct for you. .

The Essential Snowboard Package

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Snowboarding has become one of the most popular winter sports due to which many invest in snowboards, snowboard gear and snowboarding vacations. The high demands for this game has also made many entrepreneurs provide different snowboard packages in order to assist enthusiasts enjoy this sport every year.

Vacation Packages

As soon as the winter approaches, the snowboarding resorts start getting booked and sometimes over booked by the fans; in order to get a bargain snowboarding package in a decent resort you may want to try and book in advance. When I say book in advance, I mean months in advance such as in the summer time say end of August. Keep in mind that famous resorts do not usually vary in price or offer packages because they are always booked year round so, you may want to try in advance other resorts, which have advertised snowboard packages when booking is done in advance.

Other snowboard packages are when it does not concern the hotel rate but the snowboard gear such as, you get the room for 2 days and 3 nights and get the snowboard gear for free for the period of time for you to use as you please. That is a great snowboard package, which you should definitely not pass.

During peak season however, the only snowboard packages you may be able to find will be a discount on the total rate, which is also great if you are a snowboarding enthusiast and have come to the resort just to spend time on the slope.

Research In Advance

If you know when and where to you want to go, I suggest you research in advance and book while the prices are low and snowboard packages are still available. The best way to be ahead is to get online and search all the resorts where you would like to take a vacation.

Sometimes, even in the high season, you may be able to get some great deal if you research first for example going on vacation during the week instead of the weekend may raise your chances of getting a snowboard package.

Helpful Tip

Try to look for deals in the middles prices hotels and resorts as they usually carry the best variety of packages during all seasons and are most flexible, if need be, while large chains have fixed prices year round and don’t usually make exceptions.

Much of this information can be found on your favorite search engine. Also, local snowboarding shops will have books and pamphlets. They will also have bulletin boards with posting and connections.

Snowboarding History

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

If you are planning to go for a skiing or snowboarding trip and you continue to have not decided about your equipments, then buying the required gear seems to be the most suitable choice, but its cost is maybe the major drawback. If you’re a noob in the sport, then getting the gear on rent is a much better option for you.

Particularly if you’re not ready to spend a large amount on buying them. As carrying them in your auto or plane is also a troublesome activity, you also will be saved from this if you lease the equipments. And, because human body is always susceptible to become thin or fat, you can not afford to get one again and therefore, hiring the gear is a smarter choice. Bearing in mind all these points, hiring the skiing or snowboarding gear appears to be better than purchasing a brand new set.

Now you have made your mind to hire the necessary gear for your sport, it would be wise to book it much before your scheduled trip.

This is beneficial as you won’t need to hold the equipments all of the way up. But for this, you will have to arrive at least an hour before your ski or snowboard schedule so that you get sufficient time to get into your equipments and prepare for the expedition. But if you are going to lease it from some other place, then it’d be better to get it one day before your adventure.
The sort of equipments you need to hire mostly depends on your body weight. The gear should be of the right weight and the shoes should be of the perfect size. While signing the contract for hiring the equipments, the company will also offer you insurance over the gear, the cost of which is mostly a single dollar for a day. This comes to 3-4 dollars for one trip. This cost is far less when we compare it to loads of bucks we are going to have to spend if we damage the rented snowboard or ski.
