Although standard travel policies often take numerous situations into account, there are some applicants or situations that they will either charge vastly inflated premiums for or simply not cover at all.

The following are some examples of this -

Those who are not physically or mentally fit
Those who are not aged 18 to 50
Those that are planning on engaging in any “hazardous sport”, this includes the majority of extreme sports
Those that plan on being abroad for an extended or unusually long period of time, backpacking is a good example of this

Within these situations the applicant is likely to require “specialist cover”, two of the most popular of which are outlined below.

Over 50’s

Nearly all standard policies have an “upper age limit”, which is usually 50 or over, with some providers this is 65. Travellers over this age limit will find their premiums a lot more expensive to their younger counterparts, especially in terms of medical cover.

Seniors obtaining a quote may find they have to answer more questions than usual; this is so the insurer can get a clearer picture of any pre-existing medical conditions.

Extreme Sports

With the popularity of extreme sports such as snowboarding, scuba diving, parasailing and skiing soaring in recent years, insurance policies have been adjusted to reflect these changes.

As with over 50’s, those participating in extreme sports are likely to find that the “standard” medical policy will not suffice. With most not covering any injuries incurred as a result of participating in extreme sports.

As well as providing more reasonable travel insurance premiums, a specialist provider is also likely to cover both rented and personal sporting equipment, which is often very expensive to replace.

Obtaining cheap travel insurance for the situations outlined above isn’t that difficult as the number of applicants has increased considerably over the years. A quick search online is generally the best method for comparing the travel insurance market.

Travel Insurance – Tips On How To Find The Best Cover

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Many of us like to travel abroad to pastures new at least once a year, and some of us like to jet off abroad even more often if we can. There are also many people that have to travel abroad as part of their work, and may find themselves heading overseas on a regular basis. Whether you are travelling for business or leisure, and whether you travel regularly or occasionally, it is important to remember that having travel insurance in place is of paramount importance for you and those travelling with you.

Travel insurance is available from a wide range of lenders, and there are different levels of cover that are designed to suit different needs and circumstances. You can get some pretty good deals on travel insurance cover, although you should remember that the cost of cover and the benefits of cover can vary from one provider to another. It is therefore vital that you compare cover from a number of providers, and in addition to checking and comparing the price you also read the small print, familiarise yourself with any restrictions or exclusions, and make sure that you are aware of the benefits.

When you are booking or arranging your travel insurance cover you will need to decide which type of policy is best suited to your needs. There are a number of options to select from, and a few of these are outlined below:

Single trip cover: Single trip travel insurance cover is ideal for those that only travel abroad occasionally, such as once a year or less, and this cover can be taken out when arranging your trip, either through the company that is arranging your flight and accommodation or by doing some research and comparing deals from other travel insurance providers. As the name suggest this type of travel insurance covers you for a single return trip.

Multi-trip travel insurance: If you travel abroad on a regular basis, it would be a pain to have to arrange separate cover each time you went, not to mention expensive. With multi-trip travel insurance cover you can enjoy being covered for a number of trips abroad without having to arrange cover separately each time.

Annual travel insurance cover: Annual travel insurance cover will provide protection for the whole year, so no matter how many times you travel over the course of that year you will be covered. Again, this can suit those that travel on a regular basis, and can save time, hassle, and money.

Group travel insurance: If you are travelling abroad as part of a group you can get some good deals on group cover that will protect everyone in the group. This is a far cheaper way of getting this valuable insurance than everyone taking out their own separate policy.

Winter sports cover: Many people like to jet off to a winter wonderland to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports. However, this can be a dangerous sport, and therefore you need specialist cover to protect you against the increased risks as well as to protect the expensive gear and equipment that you will be using.

Annual Travel Insurance: Simplifying Cover for Frequent Travellers

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Travel insurance is essential for every trip, no matter how long your getaway or how far you plan to travel. But if you’re like countless travellers out there, thinking about and actually sorting your travel insurance arrangements is not at the top of your to-do list – primarily because it’s not the most exciting thing to think about with regard to your travels. Nevertheless, travel insurance is important and you should make time to arrange cover well before your date of departure.

But, as if it weren’t hard enough to consider insurance for individual, once-a-year holidays, frequent travellers need to think about cover all the time. And if destinations vary greatly, getting a suitable insurance policy for each place of travel can be time consuming, costly and confusing.

However, those who travel frequently throughout the year have a better option than to secure seperate policies for each trip. The answer is in <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://uk.insurancewide.com/insurance/travel/”>annual travel insurance</a> – a product that combines comprehensive cover, convenience and value, all under one policy.

Annual travel insurance policies will often cover travellers for an unlimited number of trips within the span of twelve months. However, you might find that insurers will place a limit on how many days a singe trip can last – so if you tend to take extended trips, you’ll want to look out for this restriction. Some policies will also include a limited number of days’ cover for winter sport activities, such as skiing and snowboarding, at minimal or no extra charge. However, not all insurers will offer this, so it’s essential to compare annual travel insurance policies before committing to any one product.

Another advantage to annual travel insurance is that buyers usually obtain better value by buying one policy that covers them for the entire year, rather than multiple policies for individual trips. Moreover, certain annual travel insurance policies will offer money-saving perks such as free cover for under-18s travelling with their family. No matter how you look at it, annual travel insurance ends up a better bargain for frequent travellers.

Generally, if you travel more than two times a year, an annual travel insurance policy will be of value to you, in terms of the money you’ll save. But it’s also a big time saver, as you won’t have to compare and secure policies for each and every trip you take – so you’ll have more time to think about and plan all the fun aspects of your trips.

On the Piste or Off it – Make Sure you Get the Right Travel Insurance Cover

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

That is why it is essential to have the proper ski and snowboard travel insurance to provide the necessary cover on and off the slopes. So what should people be looking for?

Most travel insurance providers offer good cover for intermediate and beginners. This is the vast bulk of the market. Yes, accidents do happen but they are more likely to be in a controlled fashion, by that we mean on well groomed pistes and with assistance and help on hand. The problem area is when the skier or snowboarder gains in confidence and skill and wants to seek greater challenges and with it more thrills. This generally means tackling ever more severe slopes but also to venture into what is loosely termed ‘off piste’. This is where the unwary can very quickly become unstuck and we are not talking about the snow conditions. Most travel insurance policies will have restrictions on ‘off piste’ such as ‘only with a guide’ or ‘only within a specified resort area’ so when seeking that ‘adrenaline rush’ it is important to know what you are getting yourself into first. What’s more, the increasing popularity of ‘half pipes’ and ‘free style’ means that the potential risk of injury has increased as more and more people are attracted to this immensely enjoyable leisure activity. To make sure you are properly covered for these more extreme sports activities, it is essential that winter sports insurance is obtained that offers protection to this level of activity. The more expert you are, the more likely you will need more specialist cover than provided by the usual high street provider. Mountain rescue and medical costs are expensive and if this requires repatriation then the costs mount up rapidly. It’s probably too late, as you are being strapped to the rescue sledge, to wonder whether the travel insurance you bought before the holiday is going to cover you. Know before you go.
