Snowboard Waxing Tips

Preparation is the key to waxing your snowboard in a timely fashion. So, before you can begin to wax your board, you first need to get all of your tools together. You can start by getting a work bench to place your board on. Alternatively, you can use two crates and place your board between them.

When waxing your snowboard, most of your effort we be directed towards scraping the excess wax from the board. Because of this, you need to make sure that the work area is at a comfortable height for you. Tools you will need include a scraper for getting rid of excess wax on the board, an iron to melt the wax, abrasive pads for getting rid of old wax and dirt, and polishing pads for smoothing out the wax and giving it a nice sheen. It also doesn’t hurt to have a drop cloth to make clean up of the old wax easier.

And, of course, you will require wax. Snowboard wax has different formulations depending on where it is to be use. Basically they are formulated for warm weather, cold weather, and all purpose weather. Choose the wax that most reflects the season and the temperatures in the area in which you will be snowboarding.

Before purchasing your snowboard wax, read the instructions on the package. It should show the temperatures for which the wax is formulated.  If it doesn’t, however, the store personnel can help you in choosing the correct wax for your area. Unless you are a professional or the temperatures in your area are extreme in either direction, you will probably end up using the all-season snowboard wax.

Spread the wax over your snowboard. Once this is done, you will need to smooth it out with your iron. The aim is to make sure that the wax seeps into all of the tiny crevices in the base. Different waxes require different temperature settings. Make sure that your temperature setting is appropriate for the wax that you are using.

The last thing that you want to do is to burn your snowboard. One way of protecting it from the heat is to apply the wax to the entire surface of the board. It is important that you keep the iron continually moving and don’t let it stay in place for too long. Think of it as ironing your clothes.

When you are done ironing, don’t start scraping the wax right away. Let the wax set and harden a little bit, and then start your scraping. Depending on the wax and the temperature in your shop, you probably won’t have to wait more than about five to ten minutes.

Watch the amount of heat you apply to the wax on the board carefully. If it begins to smoke, your iron it too hot. First of all, it means that the chemicals in the wax are starting to separate. When this happens, wax is no longer really wax. It has separated into into its various components and no longer performs the function that wax will.

A second reason for not allowing your wax to smoke is that it can destroy your base to the extent that it is no longer capable of accepting new wax. So watch your iron temperatures carefully and avoid ruining your wax job.

3 Tips that will Help Improve Your Skiing and Snowboarding

No matter what your experience level with skiing and snowboarding, you can only learn so much from books and online. No amount of reading is going to replace experience, but be sure to use caution when trying something new. You also know that the slopes and back country can be totally unforgiving, too. Use the following tips to help you refine your skiing and snowboarding skills a little bit more.

Looking for signs of past events is part of reading your route and is an important skill to practice. Whenever a huge avalanche occurs, you hear about it on the news. These news stories tell you how devastating and unforgiving this natural event can be. But what a lot of people don’t know is that the much smaller avalanches can kill you just as easily as the big ones. Reading your routes is really about experience than anything else. It’s not the easiest skill to learn but it’s something that you shouldn’t ignore. Take the time to study the terrain, looking for the sometimes hard to detect variations. This will allow you to spot potential hazards as well as recognize signs of past damage.

One thing that may not occur to a lot of skiers and riders is the importance of staying hydrated while you’re out doing what you love. You might be astounded to find out how fast you can become dehydrated and that can severely affect your energy levels. Not only that, you can additionally face awful cramps in your leg muscles, simply on account of your body needing water. You know how hurtful a muscle cramp can be, we do for sure, and you don’t want to have one happen when you’re in a risky turn or maneuver that requires all your focus and skill. Snowboarding is one of the extreme sports that is becoming more and more popular. A lot of people wants to experience the fun and excitement of riding down the slopes, exploring all sorts of tricks and having that feeling of adrenaline pumping in your body.

However, you have to master the basics if you want to ride like a pro. Here’s a few things that will make your snowboarding a much more enjoyable experience:

*Always choose a board that’s the right size for you. The board should be reaching somewhere between your chin and collarbone. For the beginner it’s a good idea to get one that’s a bit shorter and therefore easier to maneuver. For the width, the board should be just as wide as your boots standing across the top.

*The equipment you choose depends on whether you are intending to do the “freestyle/freeride” style or “alpine/carving”. Freestyle equipment uses a soft boot and a relatively short, maneuverable board, While the alpine board is thicker and heavier to give a more smooth ride.

*The clothes you wear also have a great impact on your snowboarding pleasure. The clothes you are wearing should be fitting but yet comfortably loose. In this way you can move with ease but you don’t risk to have the clothes getting caught in anything. Snowboarding boots should be comfortable and and not too tight, in opposition to skiing boots.

Don’t hold back on protection from the elements, get: goggles, good gloves, a hat or helmet and if you want extra protection for your tailbone and bottom pick up some protective pants.

When you are all set for the slopes, don’t forget to start off slowly. My recommendation is getting at least one lesson to begin with. Instead of “crashing and burning” like I did my first time, a lesson can save you lots of bumps and bruises!

Here is one of the most important keys to get the most out of snowboarding, be present and relaxed. I found that snowboarding can be a truly magical experience of being in the moment. It’s great to feel each movement, every twist and turn while you’re riding down the slope.

One more tip that is of great value is to practice tricks with friends. Even if you have some skills it’s a good idea to have someone nearby so you can look after each other. It’s not only fun to do things together, it’s also a great way to improve your skill. By sharing your tricks with one another you’re learning becomes both faster and easier.
