For that long overdue winter holiday you have been planning to take your loved one/s, just make sure that you get the best holiday insurance specially tailored for the winter season to ensure everything works out perfectly well. Having a travel insurance that includes ski cover as a bonus may not give you all the assurance needed to get your mind off the risks surrounding winter activities and fully get you into the winter holiday mood. The only way to do this is to get the best ski travel insurance which is specifically tailored to cover the activities you will be involved in during your holiday.

Winter holiday travels present very different types of needs in relation to other conventional holidays. The best ski travel insurance policies add punch to the regular policies formulated against risks involved in winter holidays. Accidents and injuries related to skiing and snowboarding are often more dangerous and more often than not high medical costs are involved. The costs of damaged equipment and loss of ski passes are also very high. Thus, in looking for the best holiday insurance for winter sports coverage, accidents, injuries, damage, and loss of equipment should form the basis of your insurance consideration elements.

After making travelling and accommodation reservations it is time to create a checklist to help you land the best ski travel insurance that will provide maximum benefits. The first pointer in your checklist should at least be a cover for temporary or permanent impairment and death. This should be followed by a cover for emergency medical evacuation (this may include helicopter rescue). Other than cover for your damaged, lost or stolen equipment, the best holiday insurance winter policies should include a third party liability cover in case you accidentally hurt someone or cause damage to their property and belongings.

Carrying on with your checklist, the best ski travel insurance firms provide adequate cover for your valuables, passport, ski pass, and baggage stolen or otherwise lost. There are also chances that your skiing resort may be closed due to lack of snow or other reasons. The best holiday insurance policies for skiing have event cancellation covers, travel delay, legal expenses, withdrawal of services and airline failure among other covers.

Nowadays it is pretty easy to locate and purchase the best holiday insurance quotes for winter travel thanks to online based insurance firms. This should however not be a last minute task. You should take enough time to go through the terms and conditions of different policies before making a final decision. Only the best ski travel insurancewill ensure that you have peace of mind and soul to enjoy your winter holiday.

Why You May Need Annual Multi Trip Insurance

The annual multi trip insurance is a policy meant to insure against monetary losses that one may suffer as result of mishaps during the so many travels he/she may have in a period of twelve months. This policy is particularly loved by travelers having trips abroad and whose normal insurance policies are active only within the borders of their country of origin.

Essential Travel Tips For Canada’s Winter Olympics

Edit Article |

]]>

The Canada Winter Olympics in 2010 is promising to be quite an event. It seems every year that opening ceremonies get bigger, brighter and more spectacular; world records are broken in a more amazing fashion, and crowds get bigger. However, there is also heightened awareness of security every year, especially in the last decade. If you’re travelling to Canada’s Winter Olympics, we give you some of the inside info on travel insurance.

All About the Canada Winter Olympics

The Olympic Cauldron will be lit in Vancouver on February 12, 2010, marking the official start of the games. All of the regular Winter Olympic sports are on the agenda: ice hockey, alpine and cross-country skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding and figure and speed skating will be heavily attended. There are also a couple of relatively new sports included for this set of games, like Skeleton and Luge.

The Olympics in Vancouver are being held in one of the most picturesque locations ever seen in a host city. That location, however, is also causing a lot of speculation about whether conditions will be suitable for snow-based and other outdoor events. The Opening Ceremony, and traditionally high demand events like medal rounds in figure skating and ice hockey have been booked solid for months.

Potential Security Issues

The profile of the Winter Olympics makes it a target for potential terrorist or anarchist demonstrations, as well as those of other special interest groups. The torch relay, which began on the 30th of October last year (yes, that is a massive run!), has already been marred by minor demonstrations. However, these certainly were not on the scale of Beijing’s Olympics and the Tibet issue, which went off relatively undisturbed.

Do look out for demonstrations, which can quickly turn violent with the help of crowd mentality. There will be around 6,000 security personnel on hand in the Olympic vicinity to keep eventgoers safe. Don’t skimp on the travel insurance, however – an upgrade often costs less than you think it would, and is a sensible precaution in the current international climate.

Potential Logistical Issues

We already mentioned that the opening ceremony and high demand events have been booked solid for some time. If you have made any travel plans on the basis of attending these particular events, you may want to rethink them. Logistics-related travel insurance claims can only be paid if outside circumstances prevent you from fulfilling your hotel booking (or other bookings), not because of failure to plan ahead.

You’ll also want to make sure that your online travel insurance policy, or your car rental insurance policy, covers everybody who will be driving your rental car. After Manhattan, Vancouver has the highest population density in North America – so you can imagine the traffic around the Olympics time!

Recommended Level of Travel Insurance

Given the issues that travelers might encounter at the Vancouver Olympic Games, we’d recommend looking for the following in an online travel insurance policy:

Full medical travel insurance coverage – the risk of catching an illness in cold conditions, surrounded thousands of other people, is high
Logistical travel insurance coverage – the fact that accommodation is at a premium in and around the Games venues (and in the entire city!) means that you could be up for considerable extra costs if you have a logistical problem.

The highest level of travel insurance cover, which offers catastrophe cover, hijack benefit, search and rescue expenses, mugging benefit and resumption of trip benefits may not be needed here … however, it only costs a little extra and could add to your peace of mind.

Cadillac Bls Bags Winter Car 2007 Award

]]>

Recently at the 77th Salon International de l’Auto Geneve (77th annual Geneva International Motor Show), Tekniikan Maailma magazine, one of the leading automotive publications in Finland named the 2007 Cadillac BLS 4-door compact sedan as the recipient of their Winter Car 2007 Award. Martti Merilinna, Chief Editor of Tekniikan Maailma handed the award to Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor.

In the past 12 months, the Tekniikan Maailma conducted a winter test drive for 20 European vehicle models, including the newest models from Volvo, Honda, Peugeot, Skoda, and other European brands. Tekniikan Maailma crew brought the vehicles in a winter test track located Ivalo, a village in Northern Finland. The Ivalo village is noted for hosting some of the largest winter sports events like down-hill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and slalom skiing. Moreover, the place is also one of the areas in Europe with the most harsh winter driving conditions.

The Winter Car 2007 Award aims to determine which of the 20 vehicles could: “… in this sparsely populated land of the cold and dark winter… take us to our destination in safety, comfort and warmth.”

Among the 20 competitors, Tekniikan Maailma has chosen the Cadillac BLS sedan as the winner because of the vehicle’s impressive performance in winter driving conditions. The Tekniikan Maailma winter test crew made their selection based on certain criteria including low-grip handling, braking stability, grip on uphill starts, headlamp performance, and the ability of the vehicle to “heat the interior to a comfortable 15 degrees in just 10 minutes from a sub-zero startup”.

The Cadillac BLS scored high during the evaluation, bagged the Winter Car 2007 award, and most of all, achieved what the Cadillac BLS design and engineering team aims, which is to integrate with the “toughest European driving conditions.” The Tekniikan Maailma winter test crew commented: “Here is the best ever Cadillac one could hope for in winter use.”

The Europe-only Cadillac BLS compact sedan was released in 2006, based on GM’s Epsilon vehicle platform and was built in Cadillac assembly plant located in Trollhättan, Sweden. The car features the very first turbo diesel engine from GM’s luxury brand. It also comes with elegant exterior design and GM parts like GM mud flap, comfortable interior features, as well as impressive vehicle driving and handling performance. The Cadillac BLS sedan has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of 19,000 Euros or about $25,000 USD.

Pack Your Bags For A Winter Sports Holiday

]]>

Winter holidays can be just as much fun as summer ones if you pick the right destination to head to. Instead of lying on a beach somewhere, why not pick a more active holiday instead?

Winter sports are taken up by lots of different people each year. Whether you are new to them or you are a seasoned pro, there is a lot to look forward to on this kind of holiday.

Firstly you can have a go at skiing. This is the most popular reason why so many people go on a winter holiday. You can navigate your way down the side of a mountain and you’ve always got lots of stunning scenery to look at as you go. Don’t worry if you are new – there are plenty of lessons you can take to make the most of any skills you might have.

Next up there is snowboarding. This is more difficult than skiing because you have no poles to help keep you upright and your feet are strapped to a single board. However if you get the hang of it there’s no denying the thrill it gives you.

Even though your focus will be on the sports themselves, winter holidays have plenty more in store too. Most ski resorts are known for what is called après-ski as well. This is the name given to all the entertainment that you can take part in during the evenings.

Most of the time there will be bars, restaurants and other similar venues you can visit, so if you like the idea of this make sure the resort you choose is a well rounded one.

Of course when it comes to packing your bags you need to pack them with the right things. For example some items will be the kind of things you would need on a summer holiday too. A classic case is sun lotion. The sun can bounce off the snow and burn you just as easily as it would during the summer, so make sure you cover up.

You also need to pack the right clothing. Layers are always a good idea as they will keep the heat in far more effectively than wearing just one thick jumper. In addition to this you should have a hat, scarf and gloves that are suitable for wearing on the slopes if you intend to go skiing. A certain amount of waterproofing is a good idea since you will get very wet if you keep falling over!

Finally make sure you have the right degree of winter sports travel insurance to cover you while you are away. It should cover you for the sports you are going to try, and if you have the right policy you’ll know you’re securely covered for all eventualities.
